Script Writing Task

For this experimentation I have taken the scripts from the opening scenes in the film's 'Se7en' and 'The Shining' additionally adding my own text to enhance the script; which I have named 'Mistaken Identity'. The film's are both from the genre of horror - so my version is also a conventional horror film based on a mysterious serial killer.

My film opening sequence begins with an enigma to the lead male's true identity as he is not seen visually until after this scene is over. The setting is in a conventional run-down American hotel - however the precise area is unknown.  Certain camera angles such as super close ups and mid shots-are used to create uneasy atmospheres.

Here is my practice of a script for an opening scene:

I have found putting this script together very useful for when I create my own in the future. Before doing this task I did not realise how much detail goes into the script; now I know to include the camera  and visual effects when composing one myself.

The keywords I learned in this task are:

  • EXT - exterior
  • INT - interior

About Me

My name is Megan Lawrence and I am currently 16 years old. I have just begun Media AS at sixth form; and so far I am really enthusiastic about the subject! However, I did not previously take Media for GCSE so it is still slightly unfamiliar to me. The other subjects which I study are: Art, History and English Literature. I have a great interest in Fashion and Fashion Journalism.

My favourite film/television/book genres are horrors, thrillers and dystopia's as I find these really interesting and diverse. Therefore I feel as i want to base my coursework on these genres. (However, this really doesn't reflect my personality - I am not Gothic in the slightest!). Additionally, I like most genres of music. I class myself as fairly creative so I think this will help me with editing my coursework e.g my Film Opening Sequence.

I am excited to be starting up my blog as I think it allows me to be really creative with my coursework. I will share my development and experimentation's through a significant number of posts during the next few months.
